Biography
Henry Ketchum Averill Jr., born in 1830, devoted himself to strengthening the institutions that nurtured younger generations. He shared his experience freely, mentoring men just beginning careers in business and public service and lending his calm counsel to boards that governed schools and charitable houses.
He never tired of reminding people of the simpler virtues of honesty, perseverance, and neighborliness, and he took pleasure in tending the Riverside Cemetery paths where family and friends met to remember those gone before. His patient demeanor and steady faith remain an inspiration.
