1778–1869 (age 91)
Biography
Henry Phillpotts served as Bishop of Exeter from 1830 until his death in 1869, endeavouring to strengthen the diocesan schools, restore churches and shepherd clergy through a century of social and religious upheaval.
His pastoral letters and firm sense of duty made him a familiar figure to parishes across Devon, and he remained a resolute advocate for the Anglican ministry throughout his long episcopate.
