Biography

Henry R. Pease devoted his life to education and Reconstruction-era justice, first overseeing Freedmen’s Bureau efforts and later representing Mississippi in the United States Senate, where he championed public schools and civic fairness.

After leaving Washington he continued writing and speaking in support of equal learning opportunities, remaining active in his community until his final days at Mount Hope Cemetery.
