Biography

Henry Smith Poyas was a young man whose life was cut short in the early decades of the nineteenth century. He lived during a period of significant change in the American South, in the vibrant Lowcountry region of South Carolina.

Though he lived only thirty-seven years, Henry Smith Poyas left his mark on the historical record of his community. He was laid to rest at Yeamans Hall Plantation Cemetery, where his memory endures among those of his contemporaries.
