Biography

Henry Tombs, VC, served with the Bengal Horse Artillery and displayed fearless leadership during the Indian Rebellion, often at the forefront of daring charges and perilous rescues. His ability to command calm under fire earned him not only the Victoria Cross but the admiration of his regiment.

In later years he found peace near Carisbrooke, where he reflected on the comradeship of his service and supported local military charities. His story remains part of the Isle of Wight's heritage, a reminder that courage is best measured by service to others.
