Biography
Coming to Oregon Territory in the early 1850s, Henry W. Corbett built one of Portland's first mercantile houses and parlayed that success into banking, railroad, and shipping interests before being chosen to represent the state in the United States Senate.
He directed his wealth back into his adopted city through support for churches, schools, hospitals, and the arts, helping to construct landmark buildings and civic institutions that served generations of Oregonians.
