Biography
Henry Winthrop Sargent translated his passion for gardening into landscapes that served as living classrooms for landscape design, especially through the cultivation of his Hudson River estate. His care for rare plants and thoughtful arrangements reflected a desire to nurture order and beauty in equal measure.
He corresponded widely, publishing essays that helped disseminate horticultural knowledge and inspiring others to regard the land with reverence. He lies in Saint Luke's Church Cemetery, leaving gardens behind that still whisper his name.
