Biography
Herbert Hoffleit cultivated a lifelong fascination with the sky, joining the ranks of American astronomers who mapped variable stars for the benefit of science and education. A dedicated researcher, he spent much of his career at the Harvard College Observatory, where he became known for meticulous catalogs and patient mentorship of young scholars.
Hoffleit also shared his knowledge through lectures and writings that emphasized the wonder of the heavens while continuing his research until retirement, and his influence is commemorated at Forest Lawn Memorial Park where he rests among those inspired by the cosmos.
