Biography
Hercules Mulligan was a patriotic merchant and tailor whose shop in New York became a center of espionage during the American Revolution. Working as a spy for General George Washington, he gathered intelligence on British military movements and supplied the Continental Army with vital information while maintaining his cover as a loyalist sympathizer.
After the war, Mulligan continued his tailoring business and remained a respected figure in New York society. His contributions to American independence were largely unrecognized during his lifetime, though he was eventually acknowledged for his crucial role in the Revolutionary cause. He was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery, where his legacy as a patriot and businessman endures.
