Biography
Herman A. Metz rose from Brooklyn's immigrant-rich neighborhoods to become a leading importer and industrialist in New York, heading the sugar and shipping interests of H. A. Metz & Company and later serving as a U.S. Representative with a reputation for defending commerce and fair taxation for American enterprises.
He married business acumen with civic generosity, lending support to hospitals and educational causes while continuing to advise emerging industries until his death; his remains rest at Kensico Cemetery among fellow public servants.
