Hester Mayotte

1896–1931 (age 35)

Biography

Hester Mayotte arrived in Mountain View at the turn of the century determined to ease the burden of illness that hovered over many families, training as a midwife and nursing those whom doctors could not easily reach. She emblazoned her care with patience, traveling on foot through rain and snow to deliver medicine and reassurance.

Beyond the infirmary, Hester organized children's story afternoons at the cemetery gate, believing the youngest souls needed gentle reminders of resilience, and her friends remember her smile whenever the town gathered for harvest festivals.
