Biography
Hiram Paulding, 1797–1878, devoted much of his life to service in the United States Navy, commanding vessels in the War of 1812 and later overseeing missions that guarded American interests on distant seas. His calm demeanor and measured judgment were trusted by sailors who sailed under his orders and by communities that knew him as an admired veteran.
After retiring to Huntington, he remained a source of mentorship for young mariners and an advocate for the families of those who kept watch on the nation’s coasts, sharing lessons of honor and duty until his final years.
