Hiram Pratt guided Buffalo through an era of rapid growth, serving as mayor and as a civic leader who strived to align banks, roads, and commerce with the needs of families.

His untimely death in 1840 left the city with a heartfelt gratitude for a man who worked tirelessly to keep its promise as a gateway on the Erie Canal.
