Horace Boies

Biography

Horace Boies, born in 1827, made his mark as a lifelong advocate for fairness and a one-time governor of Iowa, championing civil service reform and the public interest. His perseverance and belief in government serving all citizens earned him admiration across the political spectrum.

He died in 1923 and was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of courageous leadership and an unwavering belief that public servants ought to reflect the best of common purpose.
