Biography
Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, combined military service with political responsibility, rising to command regiments during the American War of Independence and later representing his order in Parliament. His sense of noblesse oblige found expression in the management of his estates and in support for the county he loved.
In later years the duke took a guiding hand in public works and the benevolent relief of those in need, earning respect for his steady leadership. His remains lie within Westminster Abbey, a fitting resting place for a man who sought to serve both crown and country with dignity.
