Biography
Hugh S. Cumming, born in 1869, served as U.S. Surgeon General and guided the Public Health Service through years of great change, promoting immunization and the science of prevention to safeguard the nation.
He bore the responsibilities of that office with compassion and discipline, and generations owe him gratitude as his remains rest at Saint Johns Church Cemetery.
