Hugo Aurelius von Wangelin

Biography

Hugo Aurelius von Wangelin (1818–1883) embodied the dignity of a scholar-gentleman of the nineteenth century, and he applied his talents to support his friends and neighbors in the Walnut Hill area. His character reflected a commitment to principle and to the cultural pursuits that bound the community together.

Buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery, von Wangelin is remembered for welcoming conversations, for his careful stewardship of tradition, and for helping sustain a thoughtful civic spirit that benefitted all who encountered him.
