Hugo Scheiber

1873–1950 (age 77)

Biography

Hugo Scheiber was a Hungarian painter whose restless, rhythmically charged canvases captured the pulse of urban life and the dazzling energy of the early twentieth century. Drawing from Expressionism and Cubism, he fused vivid hues with angular forms to depict dancers, acrobats, and the modern metropolis in a way that remains both elegant and audacious.

Throughout his career he contributed to the development of Hungary’s avant-garde, shaping the visual language of a generation while remaining a respected chronicler of the human condition; he now rests in the Kozma Street Jewish Cemetery amid the city he portrayed with such affection.
