Ignaz Semmelweis (1818–1865) was a Hungarian physician whose pioneering work in obstetrics and hygiene revolutionized medical practice and saved countless lives. His groundbreaking research on childbed fever and the importance of handwashing established fundamental principles of infection control that transformed modern medicine and established him as a visionary in public health.
