Biography

Inez Beverly Prosser, born in 1895, made history as one of the first African American women to earn a doctorate in psychology, blazing a trail for others in a profession long closed to women of color. Her scholarship shed light on the educational experiences of African American students and urged equitable treatment in schools.

Though her life was cut short, her research and advocacy continue to inspire educators and psychologists who follow her example of resilience, intellect, and care.
