Biography

Ira Joy Chase answered the country's call as a chaplain and later as an officer during the Civil War before moving into public service, where his humility and steady temperament guided him through terms in the state House and eventually to Indiana's governorship.

He led with compassion during times of transition, supporting veterans' care and local charities, and the people who visit his gravesite at Crown Hill Cemetery remember him as a gentle servant of the state.
