Ira Shafer

Ira Shafer was a pillar of Highland, the sort of steady presence that kept small towns anchored through times of change. Born in 1831, he devoted himself to the work of neighborliness, offering help wherever it was needed.

When he died in 1896 his friends recalled the constancy of his service, and Highland Cemetery now honors him for a life lived with integrity.
