Irene Stegun helped shape the field of numerical analysis through her work at the National Bureau of Standards and as coauthor of the revered Handbook of Mathematical Functions, which provided reliable tables and insights for generations of scientists.

Her care for students and colleagues shone through in every collaboration, and many still recall her warmth near New Saint Peter Cemetery where she now rests.
