Biography
Isaac Harby, born in 1788, became a leading light among American Jews, writing essays, poetry, and editorials that urged honesty, learning, and a thoughtful engagement with both Jewish tradition and the wider republic.
He was a founding member of the Second Cemetery of Congregation Shearith Israel and supported schools for Jewish children, leaving an imprint on Charleston's intellectual and religious life before his rest there.
