Biography
Ivan Shishmanov (1862-1928) was a writer, scholar, and statesman whose studies of folklore, literature, and education connected Bulgaria with the broader currents of European culture. He served as Minister of Education and used his experience abroad to advocate for cultural openness while strengthening national traditions.
His many essays, memoirs, and lectures continue to inspire scholars, and he rests in the company of Bulgaria's cultural figures at Central Sofia Cemetery.
