Biography
J. Bruce Ismay (1862–1937) guided the White Star Line through a transformative period for ocean travel, championing innovations in comfort and safety aboard its liners. Even after the tragedies he witnessed, he remained committed to improving maritime service for the travelling public.
He spent his later years reflecting on a long career in shipping and on lessons learned, and he is buried at Putney Vale Cemetery where he is remembered for his resilience.
