Biography

J. Edward Swanstrom spent the later decades of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth cultivating a quiet but resolute devotion to the civic well-being of his New York neighborhood, offering encouragement to local charities and civic improvements whenever he could.

He treasured his family and circle of friends, and when he passed in 1911 he was laid to rest in Green-Wood Cemetery with gratitude from those who knew him for his steady kindness.
