Biography
J. Howard Pew, born in 1882, led Sun Oil with a commitment to integrity, then turned his attention to philanthropy, channeling family resources into the Pew Charitable Trusts and other initiatives that promoted religion, sound public policy, and the arts. He believed business could flourish alongside principled giving, and he encouraged colleagues to seek long-term value over short-lived gain.
Beyond the boardroom he supported institutions that nurtured education and civic virtue, and he rests at West Laurel Hill Cemetery as a testament to a life shaped by faith and generosity.
