Biography

Jaak Sumeri stood among Estonia’s mountaineers as both explorer and mentor, guiding expeditions with calm assurance and a love for the high places. His dedication to the sport inspired many who sought to test their limits and respect the mountain environment.

Throughout his life he promoted safe climbing practices and shared stories that kindled wonder for the natural world. Sumeri passed in 1983 and is honored at Suure-Jaani cemetery.
