Jack Leigh’s photographs celebrated the spirit and subtleties of the American South, bringing its landscapes, traditions, and people to life with grace and intimacy. He gained national attention for the evocative cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and for documenting the coastlines and communities he loved.
Leigh also mentored younger artists and contributed to local cultural organizations, ensuring that his region’s stories would be preserved for future generations. He was laid to rest at Bonaventure Cemetery, leaving behind images that continue to speak to beauty, resilience, and place.
