Biography
Jacob Montgomery Thornburgh served Tennessee first as a Union Army officer and later as a lawyer, representing his state's interests during the demanding years following the Civil War. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1887, he worked to advance the needs of East Tennessee until his death in 1890.
He is buried at Old Gray Cemetery, where visitors honor the contributions he made to both law and governance.
