Jacob S. Coxey Sr., born in 1854, emerged as a leading voice for economic justice, famously organizing “Coxey’s Army” to advocate for jobs and public-works relief during the economic turmoil of the 1890s. His populist crusade for the working people of America reflected a deep conviction about fairness and the dignity of labor.
