Biography

Jacob V. Brower devoted his life to documenting Minnesota's early story, roaming forests and prairies to preserve the memory of its people, geology, and waterways, and he is credited with identifying the true headwaters of the Mississippi River.

His careful stewardship of public lands and his tireless advocacy for natural preservation left a lasting legacy in state parks, and he rests at North Star Cemetery where the community remembers his service.
