Biography
Jacoba Surie was a pioneering Dutch photographer whose work captured the visual landscape of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Born in 1879, Surie was among the early practitioners of photography as both an artistic and documentary medium in the Netherlands.
Her contributions to Dutch photographic arts helped establish the medium's legitimacy as a serious artistic endeavor. Surie passed away in 1970 and was interred at Zorgvlied cemetery, honored as part of Amsterdam's cultural heritage.
