Biography
Jacobus Van Schoonhoven took up arms as a colonel in the state militia during the Revolution, leading men from the Schoharie Valley and serving in the New York Assembly to help steer the new state.
As peace settled he managed his farm, supported the Van Schoonhoven Cemetery congregation, and greeted travelers with stories of the war, remaining a respected elder until his passing.
