Jacques Guerlain
1874–1963 (age 89)
Biography
Born into the Guerlain dynasty in 1874, Jacques Guerlain combined the traditions of his family house with a modern curiosity, refining natural ingredients and pioneering new accords that would define French perfumery. He collaborated with artists to adorn his creations with the same finesse he strove for in scent, allowing his perfumes to speak as eloquently as any painting.
Over decades he steered the maison through two World Wars, crafting luminous perfumes such as Shalimar and Mitsouko that married elegance with daring, and he remained tied to Paris as he laid himself to rest in Passy Cemetery.
