Jakob Tengström

1755–1832 (age 77)

Biography

Jakob Tengström combined a scholar’s eye and pastoral care, chronicling Finland’s past while guiding the faithful as the country’s first Archbishop; he stewarded the church and its archives with a steady hand in times of change.

In Pargas, where he is remembered, parishioners still draw inspiration from his measured words and the breadth of his historical writings that sought to preserve the nation’s story.
