James Budd

Biography

James Budd, born in 1851, rose to serve as governor of California, championing honest government and challenging the power of railroads to ensure that the state remained accountable to its citizens.

Even after leaving office he remained engaged in public affairs and local charities, and he rests in Stockton Rural Cemetery with gratitude from residents who still recall his principled leadership.
