James Drummond

1816–1877 (age 61)

Biography

James Drummond was a steadfast champion of Scottish landscape art, devoted to translating lochs, glens, and everyday scenes into watercolours and oils that celebrated the nation's atmosphere.

He encouraged younger artists, contributed to exhibitions, and kept faith with his craft to the end, and the Dean Cemetery plot now preserves the memory of a man whose loyalty to paint matched the depth of his affection for Scotland.
