Biography

James Francis Helvetius Hobler served for decades as a chief clerk in the civic offices of the City of London, ensuring that the records of sheriffs' courts and municipal duties were kept with exactitude and fairness.

He became known for his care of the poor and his calm authority when disputes arose, leaving a reputation for integrity upon his death in 1844 and interment at Highgate Cemetery.
