Biography

James Gillray earned renown as the foremost caricaturist of his era, his razor-sharp prints sketched with biting humour that held public figures to account with an artist’s hand.

His work forever shaped British political satire, and though he suffered in later years, the faithful at St James’s Church, Piccadilly, kept his memory alive after his passing in 1815.
