Biography
James H. Scheuer devoted more than half a century to public service, representing Bronx and Westchester constituents in the U.S. House of Representatives while championing urban renewal, the arts, and consumer protections. He helped shepherd legislation on civil rights, housing, and transportation while remaining accessible to local community leaders.
After leaving Congress he continued public advocacy through nonprofit boards and appointed commissions, sharing his knowledge with new generations of civic stewards and leaving a legacy celebrated at his resting place in Mount Hebron Cemetery after his passing in 2005.
