Biography
James H. Trapier graduated from the United States Military Academy and served with the U.S. Army in Florida and along the coastal South before the rupture of the Union in 1861.
He then accepted a commission with the Confederacy, leading troops and overseeing coastal defenses while seeking to treat prisoners and civilians with courtesy in a conflict that tested his sense of duty.
