Biography

James Hill, born in 1822, was a figure of steady resolve, keeping his household rhythm aligned with the seasons and offering help to neighbors when floods or poor harvests threatened. He took deep pride in the Cascade community, encouraging children to love their environment and neighbors.

After his death in 1909 he was placed in Cascade Community Cemetery, the place where folks still speak of his laugh and the generosity with which he shared tools, stories, and time.
