James L. Autry

Biography

James L. Autry, born in 1830, came of age in a nation that was being tested by sectional tension, and he was known to friends and family as a man of quiet resolve who supported his community in Hillcrest and beyond. He carried himself with the modest pride of one who worked for others rather than for personal glory.

His life ended in 1862, but the memory of his faithful friendship and willingness to shoulder the burdens of those around him endures beside his stone at Hillcrest Cemetery.
