James Lawrence Nichols (1851–1895) witnessed the growth of Naperville as it forged its place in the prairie landscape. He kept pace with the changes of the era, ever mindful of the community bonds that held families together through seasons of both prosperity and difficulty.

He now rests in Naperville Cemetery, and the memories of his steady character remain a quiet inspiration for the town he served so faithfully.
