Biography

James Leslie Starkey was an Egyptologist whose excavations, particularly at Lachish, deepened the world's understanding of ancient Judah and linked those discoveries to the living history of Jerusalem.

He died in 1938 and is interred at Mount Zion Cemetery, where his colleagues still recall the passion he brought to every field season.
