Biography

James Lockhart, born in 1806, built a legal practice that brought him into close partnership with townsfolk and county leaders, and his calm resolve soon made him a trusted figure in state circles.

He took that trust to the halls of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he defended the rights of local institutions and the respectful exercise of federal power until his passing in 1857.
