Biography
James Monroe Trotter (1842–1892) served with the 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment before turning to music, writing, and public service, producing Music and Some Highly Musical People, one of the first studies to celebrate African American musicians.
He spent his later years as a federal civil servant and civil rights advocate, and he was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.
