James Neilson (1784–1862) lived through the early decades of the American republic, witnessing the nation's growth and the challenges that shaped its character. His life spanned nearly eighty years of significant historical change.

Neilson was laid to rest at Willow Grove Cemetery, where his memory is preserved. His long life connected him to multiple generations and allowed him to observe the transformation of his country and community over many decades.
